Dementia Care Mapping (DCM)
Does your service provide quality support for people living with Dementia? Whether you answer yes or no, the next question is the same.... How do you know? Dementia Care Mapping can help you answer this question with confidence. What is Dementia Care Mapping (DCM)? An evaluation tool, DCM, creates the balance between good clinical care and good care of the person when used as part of a Quality Improvement or Practice Development framework. Developed by Professor Tom Kitwood in the United Kingdom, DCM is now used extensively all over the world. DCM is the first systematic method for looking in detail at the care process and its effect on wellbeing. DCM has also been used as a focus for staff training and development interventions, to evaluate the effectiveness of care practice and as an aid to care planning. It is a complex and powerful tool and, for this reason, training in the method and its ethical framework is available only from Bradford Dementia Group approved trainers, who have undergone rigourous preparation for this role. By striving to assess care from the point of view of the person with dementia, DCM goes to the real heart of caring. Course Outline 3 Day Course The DCM Course is three (3) days in duration and covers: - The Person-Centered Approach
- The DCM method, background, theory and practical application
- An assessment excerise on the final day, for which participants will need to bring a calculator.
